8:00 pm  ||  GALA EVENING CONCERT

Divahn
An Eastern Serenade

This edgy all-female power- house ensemble infuses traditional and original Middle Eastern Jewish songs with sophisticated harmonies, entrancing improvisations, and funky arrangements. With eclectic Indian, Middle Eastern and Latin percussion, as well as vocals spanning Hebrew, Judeo-Spanish, Persian, Arabic, and Aramaic, these girls will take you on an international musical journey you’ll never forget!

“Divan,” a word common to Hebrew, Persian, and Arabic, means a collection of songs or poetry. Divahn is led by Iranian-descended singer Galeet Dardashti (vocals, guitar, percussion). She is joined by Rebecca Cherry (violin, vocals), Eleanor Norton (cello, vocals), Sejal Kukadia (tabla, vocals), Elizabeth Pupo-Walker (percussion, vocals), Lila Sklar (violin, vocals). Through their music, the group creatively underscores common ground between diverse Middle Eastern cultures and religions. www.divahn.com
