Yom Yerushalyim Celebration

Featuring Israeli Singalong with Kobi Hass
Toronto Jewish Male Choir
and Israeli Teen Composer Romi Lifshitz

A beloved Jewish Music Week tradition continues: Shabbat ends, but the music and spirit of Shabbat don’t have to stop. It’s the Eve of Yom Yerushalayim – Jerusalem Day – so join our celebration! Share your voice as the delightful Kobi Hass leads us in a community singalong of Israeli songs. Added appearance by The Toronto Jewish Male Choir performing favourite selections with the unique spirit for which they have become known. This special evening also features a world premiere piano composition by Israeli teen composer Romi Lifshitz.  Shavuah Tov and Am Yisrael Chai!

PERFORMER BIO

Israeli bass player Kobi Hass has performed in a variety of bands in Israel and Toronto, playing jazz, Israeli folk music and rock. Here in Toronto Kobi is a well-known fixture in the Jewish and Israeli music scene, lecturing and leading Israeli-music singalongs as well as performing. Kobi holds a Masters Degree in choir conducting from Tel Aviv University and a Diploma in Professional Music from Boston’s Berklee College of Music.

Under the guidance and combined expertise of Gary Rewald and Klara Bagley, the Toronto Jewish Male Choir has performed with some of the world’s greatest proponents of Jewish music. They were twice invited to participate in the renowned Lewandowski Festival in Berlin. Comprised of non-professional singers who share the love of singing Jewish music, the TJMC opens its ranks to all male singers in Toronto. www.thetjmc.com

16-year-old Jerusalem-born Romi Lifshitz began playing piano at age 10 and has been composing for the last four years. For her research in microbiology, Romi won a gold medal in last year’s Toronto Science Fair and represented Toronto at the national Canada Wide Science Fair.
