60 Years of West Side Story
Jordan Klapman, Jennifer Taverner, Julia Morson, Will Reid
In 1957, four Jewish boys – Jerome Robbins, Leonard Bernstein, Stephen Sondheim and Arthur Laurents – changed the landscape of the American musical with their new show West Side Story, a modern-day Romeo and Juliet tale set in New York City. Sixty years later, we now invite you to a cabaret performance of the classic songs from this hit show, with musical direction and insightful behind-the-scenes tidbits from Jordan Klapman. Featuring the exquisite voices of Jennifer Taverner, Julia Morson and Will Reid.
Jordan Klapman is a pianist, accompanist, bandleader, music director, and popular music educator at U of T, Ryerson, George Brown and The Baycrest Learning Academy. A favourite “edu-tainer” Jordan presents unique musical lectures and concerts throughout Toronto and beyond. www.jordanklapman.com
Will Reid holds a B.Mus from the Faculty of Music at U of T, and a B.Ed from OISE. He performs with The Elmer Iseler Singers, is front man in the funk/soul band Yasgurs Farm, and lead singer in the 50s Doo-Wop group, The Redeemers.
Jen Taverner is in high demand as soloist with orchestras and opera companies across Canada. Recent and upcoming engagements include Toronto Operetta Theatre, The Banff Centre (“Opera in the 21st Century”), and Pacific Opera Victoria.
Julia Morson has been praised for her versatility working from opera and oratorio to musical theatre and jazz, as well as early music specialists to classical/psychedelic fusion bands. She has appeared across Europe and North America. www.juliamorson.com
