The Music of Milton Barnes
Soprano Renée Bouthot
Special Guests Micah & Daniel Barnes

This beautiful lunchtime vocal recital celebrates the glorious music of one of Canada’s most beloved Jewish composers. Labeled by some critics as “eclectic fusion”, Milton Barnes’ music is noted for its frequent use of Jewish themes and its blend of classical and jazz elements. This special hour focuses on Milton’s exploration of Ladino music where he dove deeply for inspiration towards the end of his composing life. You will be enchanted by soprano Renée Bouthot as she is joined by the Lirit Singers and accompanied by Lona Davis, piano. Special appearance by Micah and Daniel Barnes, the composer’s sons further highlight the music by sharing personal anecdotes and memories of their late father.

With Kristine Anderson, mezzo soprano, and Jesse Morrison, viola

Originally from Vancouver, Renée Bouthot is an accomplished soprano and educator with a Master of Music and Diploma in Operatic Performance from the University of Toronto. She has performed in concert, opera and musical theatre across Canada including the Canadian Opera Company, Stratford Festival and Tapestry Music Theatre. Along with Lona Davis and Kristine Anderson, Renée founded the Ginger Group, a trio of women who perform theatrical concerts specializing in Canadian music.
