Vanunu Ethno Jazz Ensemble

Direct from Tel Aviv, it’s the Canadian debut of Israel’s hippest band! The Vanunu Ethno Jazz Ensemble combines classic Jewish nigunim with ethnic Middle-Eastern and Jazz styles. The result is an exciting sound that is simultaneously contemporary and rooted in tradition. Led by Eli Vanunu on saxophone, the band also features three more of Israel’s hottest jazz players today –Dor Heled (piano), Igor Kogan (double bass), and Uri Seelig (drums). This is an infectious sound you’ll love and an energy you’ve never felt before!

Composer, saxophonist and founder Eli Vanunu earned his teaching certificate from the Hebrew University in Jerusalem and is a graduate of the Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance. He toured Australia as a jazz artist and appeared with the Assyrian band Azadoota and the pop-funk band The Modernists. Back in Israel he joined the Yemen-oriented band Yefix and established the celebrated trio Traffic Jazz. In 2011, Eli founded the Vanunu Ethno Jazz Ensemble which has performed in music festivals across Israel. www.vanunuethnojazzensemble.com
