Rhapsody 1939-1945

Gary Martin & the Rhapsody Wind Ensemble

Leo Spellman’s Rhapsody 1939-1945, considered one of the most important compositions of the 20th Century, was first performed in 1946 and then lay forgotten for over 50 years before it was performed again. This masterpiece musically takes us through all of the emotions of the war years. Gary Martin’s new concert band arrangement, beautifully performed by the 38-piece Rhapsody Wind Ensemble, once again brings the voice of survivor Leo Spellman to the world. With added narrative about the music and the composer who passed away in 2012, this is an afternoon to be treasured.
