Tin Pan Alley’s Cantors’ Sons: Berlin & Arlen

Jordana Talsky

It’s not a secret that many of Tin Pan Alley’s songwriters were Jewish, but it’s interesting to note that two—Irving Berlin and Harold Arlen—were actually the children of Cantors! Meet us for a drink and a nosh as jazz singer Jordana Talsky explores the exquisite and timeless songs—now jazz standards—of these Great American Songbook writers.

With Scott Metcalfe, piano.

Jordana Talsky has sung everything from blues to opera. Nominated for 2015 best vocal jazz artist by the Toronto Independent Music Awards, Jordana’s other awards include the John Lennon Songwriting Competition, Sarah Vaughan International Vocal Competition, and Julian Award of Excellence for Emerging Canadian Artists. Her debut recording Standard Deviation was critically praised, and this year she will be releasing her sophomore album of original material Neither of Either. Jordana holds a monthly residency at Poetry Jazz Café in Toronto’s Kensington Market every 4th Thursday.

This event made possible through the generosity of Susan and Jeff Mouckley
